About the tides at Ortega River entrance
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.1 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Bar Pilots Dock, St Johns River. The mean range is small, about 1.1 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 1.5 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −0.6 ft on January 23.
Ortega River entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Bar Pilots Dock, St Johns River: highs come about 129 min and lows about 167 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1978 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Jacksonville, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 32 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Winter Point.
Predictions are based on Bar Pilots Dock, St Johns River.
