About the tides at Pennys Creek
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.7 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. The range is large, about 5.3 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 5.9 ft. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 6.4 ft. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 3.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 7.1 ft on October 1, and the lowest is −1.9 ft on January 23.
Pennys Creek is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Charleston, Cooper River Entrance: highs come about 83 min and lows about 80 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1974 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Sandblasters, 0.4 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min later. For tidal currents, see Johns Island. Main Road Bridge.
Predictions are based on Charleston, Cooper River Entrance.
