About the tides at Punta Gorda
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.4 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay. Water here rises and falls only about 1.3 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.0 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.7 ft, comes on October 29, and the smallest, 1.2 ft, on Thursday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.5 ft on July 4 and bottom out at −0.8 ft on January 21.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1981 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Locust Point, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 9 min earlier.
Predictions are based on St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay.
