About the tides at Placida
Placida has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay. Water here rises and falls only about 0.8 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.4 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 1.9 ft, comes on October 29, and the smallest, 0.8 ft, on Thursday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 1.8 ft on July 4 and bottom out at −0.6 ft on January 21.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Don Pedro Island State Park, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 29 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Gasparilla Pass.
Predictions are based on St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay.
