About the tides at Rivière-du-Loup
Rivière-du-Loup has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The tide range here is very large, about 3.15 m on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Quebec stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 11, with a range of 4.53 m. Neap tides follow on Tuesday, when the range shrinks to 2.40 m.
This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1900. The nearest other station is Gros-Cacouna, 10.0 km away, where high tide comes about 8 min earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
Tide predictions and water levels from the Canadian Hydrographic Service. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
