About the tides at Roanoke Sound Channel

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The mean range is small, about 0.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most North Carolina stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 10, with a range of 0.6 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 0.6 ft.

Roanoke Sound Channel is a subordinate station, so NOAA publishes only its high and low times and heights. The nearest other station is Old House Channel, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 8 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Herbert C. Bonner Bridge, WSW of.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
