About the tides at Sams Point
Sams Point has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 6.7 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most South Carolina stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.2 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 8.8 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 4.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.6 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on January 23.
Sams Point is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 55 min and lows about 45 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Lucy Point Creek entrance, 2 mi away.
