About the tides at San Nicolas Island

San Nicolas Island has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Los Angeles, Outer Harbor. The average range is about 3.3 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 6.4 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on January 21.

San Nicolas Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Los Angeles, Outer Harbor: highs come about 10 min and lows about 21 min later than there. The nearest other station is Prisoners Harbor, 53 mi away, where high tide comes about 9 min later.
