About the tides at Shinnecock Bay entrance
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.3 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook. The average range is about 2.4 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is smaller than most New York stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 3.2 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.7 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.2 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 23.
Shinnecock Bay entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sandy Hook: highs come about 72 min and lows about 111 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Shinnecock Yacht Club, 1 mi away. For tidal currents, see Ponquogue bridge, Shinnecock Bay.
Predictions are based on Sandy Hook.
