About the tides at St. Matthew Island
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Village Cove, St. Paul Island. The mean range is small, about 1.2 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Alaska stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 14, with a range of 2.1 ft. Neap tides follow on Friday, when the range shrinks to 1.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.6 ft on December 23, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on June 6.
St. Matthew Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Village Cove, St. Paul Island: highs come about 6 min and lows about 29 min later than there.
