About the tides at Sugarloaf Key, north end, Bow Channel
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.8 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.8 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.3 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 3.0 ft. Neap tides follow on October 20, when the range shrinks to 1.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.3 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 21.
Sugarloaf Key, north end, Bow Channel is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 217 min and lows about 320 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1974 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Pumpkin Key, Bow Channel, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 20 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Loggerhead Key, East of.
Predictions are based on Key West.
