About the tides at Johnston Key

Johnston Key has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.6 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.0 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 2.6 ft. Neap tides follow on October 20, when the range shrinks to 1.7 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.8 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.3 ft on January 21.

Johnston Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 206 min and lows about 338 min later than there.
