About the tides at Summerland Key, southwest side, Kemp Channel

Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.5 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.1 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.5 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 2.0 ft. Neap tides follow tomorrow, when the range shrinks to 1.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.1 ft on October 28, and the lowest is −0.4 ft on January 21.

Summerland Key, southwest side, Kemp Channel is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 26 min earlier and lows about 50 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Summerland Key, 0.7 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Loggerhead Key, East of.

Predictions are based on Key West.
