About the tides at Swain Channel
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.9 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Atlantic City, Atlantic Ocean. The average range is about 4.1 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 6.2 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 3.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 6.2 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −1.2 ft on January 23.
Swain Channel is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Atlantic City, Atlantic Ocean: highs come about 55 min and lows about 40 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Wildwood Crest, Sunset Lake, 1 mi away. For tidal currents, see Cape May Harbor entrance.
Predictions are based on Atlantic City, Atlantic Ocean.
