About the tides at Old Turtle Thorofare
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.8 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Atlantic City (Ocean). On a typical day the water moves about 4.1 ft between high and low. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 5.4 ft, comes on Saturday, and the smallest, 3.0 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 6.0 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −1.1 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Atlantic City (Ocean), with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is West Wildwood, 1 mi away. For tidal currents, see Cape May Harbor entrance.
Predictions are based on Atlantic City (Ocean).
Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
