About the tides at Taloyoak

Taloyoak has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. Water here rises and falls only about 0.20 m on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Nunavut stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 0.30 m, comes on October 11, and the smallest, 0.14 m, on October 7.

Predictions for Taloyoak come from this station's own tide records. There is no live sensor, so the table shows forecast only. It was established in 1969. The nearest other station is Shepherd Bay, 85 km away, where high tide comes about 2 h 53 m later. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.

Tide predictions and water levels from the Canadian Hydrographic Service. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
