About the tides at Tappahannock

Tappahannock has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. Water here rises and falls only about 1.6 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.2 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 1.6 ft, on Monday.

Tappahannock is a subordinate station, so NOAA publishes only its high and low times and heights. The nearest other station is Wares Wharf, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 49 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Tappahannock Bridge, 1.8 miles SE of.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
