About the tides at Kinsale
Kinsale has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Washington, Potomac River. The mean range is small, about 1.0 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 1.4 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 0.7 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 1.6 ft on September 30, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 24.
Kinsale is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Washington, Potomac River: highs come about 346 min and lows about 413 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Travis Point, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 14 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Yeocomico River entrance.
Predictions are based on Washington, Potomac River.
