About the tides at Water Keys

Water Keys has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. On a typical day the water moves about 2.1 ft between high and low. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.6 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.9 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 2.2 ft, on Tuesday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.9 ft on October 29 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 21.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Key West, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1974 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Big Torch Key, Harbor Channel, 0.8 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min later.
