About the tides at West Pass

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.2 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Apalachicola, Apalachicola River. The mean range is small, about 0.8 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 29, with a range of 2.1 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 0.7 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 1.9 ft on October 1, and the lowest is −1.1 ft on January 21.

West Pass is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Apalachicola, Apalachicola River: highs come about 27 min and lows about 27 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Little St. George Island, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 31 min later.

Predictions are based on Apalachicola, Apalachicola River.
