About the tides at West Tampa
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at East Bay. The mean range is small, about 2.0 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.6 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 29, with a range of 3.6 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 2.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.5 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 21.
West Tampa is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting East Bay: highs come about 17 min and lows about 27 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hillsborough River Entrance, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 37 min later.
