About the tides at Whale Cove

Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Whale Cove, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The range is large, about 2.53 m on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most Nunavut stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 3.67 m. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.54 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1977. The nearest other station is Panorama Island, 74 km away, where high tide comes about 34 min earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
