About the tides at Winea Plantation
Winea Plantation has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. The average range is about 2.4 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is smaller than most South Carolina stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.6 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 3.3 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.2 ft on September 30, and the lowest is −1.2 ft on January 23.
Winea Plantation is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Charleston, Cooper River Entrance: highs come about 263 min and lows about 279 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1982 to 1983 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Black River (south of Dunbar), 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 54 min earlier.
