About the tides at A1A highway bridge

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.1 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance. The mean range is small, about 2.0 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.3 ft. The next spring tides peak tomorrow, with a range of 2.6 ft. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 1.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.9 ft on September 29, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 23.

A1A highway bridge is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance: highs come about 34 min and lows about 54 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1973 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Jupiter Sound, 0.7 mi away, where high tide comes about 12 min earlier. For tidal currents, see North Turning Basin.

Predictions are based on Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance.
