About the tides at Atlantic Heights
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.6 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Portland, casco Bay. With a mean range of about 7.3 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 8.9 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 5.1 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 9.5 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −1.5 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Portland, casco Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Portsmouth, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 15 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Sara Long Bridge.
Predictions are based on Portland, casco Bay.
