About the tides at Atlantic Highlands
Atlantic Highlands has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook, Fort Hancock. On a typical day the water moves about 4.6 ft between high and low. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 6.0 ft, comes on Saturday, and the smallest, 3.2 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 6.4 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −1.3 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Sandy Hook, Fort Hancock, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Oceanic Bridge, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 23 m later. For tidal currents, see Highlands Bridge, Shrewsbury River.
Predictions are based on Sandy Hook, Fort Hancock.
