About the tides at Babylon
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.1 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook. The mean range is small, about 0.6 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most New York stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 25, with a range of 0.8 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 0.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 0.8 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.2 ft on January 23.
Babylon is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sandy Hook: highs come about 131 min and lows about 161 min later than there. The nearest other station is Oak Beach, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 12 min later. For tidal currents, see Fire I. Inlet, 0.5 mi. S of Oak Beach.
Predictions are based on Sandy Hook.
