About the tides at Back Creek entrance

Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Back Creek, Del. Bay, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Reedy Point, C&d Canal. With a mean range of about 5.4 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most New Jersey stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 6.5 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 4.9 ft, on Sunday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 7.2 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −0.9 ft on January 24.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Reedy Point, C&d Canal, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Cedar Creek entrance, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 8 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Ben Davis Point, 0.8 mile southwest of.

Predictions are based on Reedy Point, C&d Canal.
