About the tides at Money Island

Money Island has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Reedy Point, C&d Canal. The range is large, about 5.6 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most New Jersey stations on this site. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 6.7 ft. Neap tides follow on October 18, when the range shrinks to 5.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 7.4 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 24.

Money Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Reedy Point, C&d Canal: highs come about 103 min and lows about 118 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1984 to 1985 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Cedar Creek entrance, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min later.
