About the tides at Bass Harbor
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.7 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay. The range is large, about 9.4 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 13.0 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 6.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 12.3 ft on August 4, and the lowest is −1.8 ft on January 23.
Bass Harbor is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay: highs come about 4 min later and lows about 27 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Southwest Harbor, 3 mi away. For tidal currents, see Casco Passage, east end, Blue Hill Bay.
Predictions are based on Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay.
