About the tides at Big Paradise Island
Big Paradise Island has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. The range is large, about 6.5 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.0 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 8.6 ft. Neap tides follow tomorrow, when the range shrinks to 4.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.6 ft on October 1, and the lowest is −1.6 ft on January 23.
Big Paradise Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Charleston, Cooper River Entrance: highs come about 84 min and lows about 52 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Woodville, 0.9 mi away, where high tide comes about 43 min later. For tidal currents, see Anneville, marker 36.
Predictions are based on Charleston, Cooper River Entrance.
