About the tides at Bluff Point

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.9 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. The range is large, about 6.1 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 8.1 ft. Neap tides follow tomorrow, when the range shrinks to 4.6 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.1 ft on October 1, and the lowest is −1.6 ft on January 23.

Bluff Point is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Charleston, Cooper River Entrance: highs come about 58 min and lows about 31 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1983 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Toogoodoo Creek, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 8 min later. For tidal currents, see Wadmalaw Island, Wadmalaw River entrance.

Predictions are based on Charleston, Cooper River Entrance.
