About the tides at Castle Hill

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.4 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Newport, Narragansett Bay. On a typical day the water moves about 3.2 ft between high and low. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.6 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 4.7 ft on September 2 and bottom out at −0.8 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Newport, Narragansett Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Beavertail Point, 2 mi away. For tidal currents, see Castle Hill, west of, East Passage.

Predictions are based on Newport, Narragansett Bay.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
