About the tides at Cedar Beach
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.5 ft. The range is large, about 6.4 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most New York stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.0 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 8.3 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 4.6 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 7.9 ft on July 5, and the lowest is −1.0 ft on January 22.
This is a prediction station. NOAA calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. NOAA measured the tide here from 1988 to 1989 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Mount Sinai Harbor, 0.2 mi away. For tidal currents, see Port Jefferson Harbor entrance.
Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
