About the tides at Port Jefferson Harbor entrance
Port Jefferson Harbor entrance has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Bridgeport, Bridgeport Harbor. The range is large, about 6.3 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most New York stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 8.6 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 5.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.3 ft on September 30, and the lowest is −1.1 ft on January 23.
Port Jefferson Harbor entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Bridgeport, Bridgeport Harbor: highs come about 2 min and lows about 1 min later than there. The nearest other station is Port Jefferson, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min later. For tidal currents, see Port Jefferson Harbor entrance.
Predictions are based on Bridgeport, Bridgeport Harbor.
