About the tides at Chandeleur Light

Chandeleur Light usually gets one high and one low tide a day, known as a diurnal tide. The pattern follows the reference station at South Pass. Water here rises and falls only about 1.2 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.2 ft, comes on October 30, and the smallest, 0.3 ft, on Friday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.1 ft on October 30 and bottom out at −1.1 ft on January 20.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at South Pass, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Ship Island, 13 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Ship Island, 1.0 nm S of, Lb 22.

Predictions are based on South Pass.
