About the tides at Chechessee Bluff

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.8 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 7.3 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most South Carolina stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 9.9 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 6.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 9.8 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.8 ft on January 23.

Chechessee Bluff is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 66 min and lows about 48 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1978 to 1980 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Callawassie Island Bridge, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min later.
