About the tides at Colleton River Entrance
Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Colleton River Entrance, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 6.9 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most South Carolina stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 9.5 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 5.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 9.3 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.9 ft on January 23.
Colleton River Entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 49 min and lows about 37 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1978 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Callawassie Creek, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 26 min later.
