About the tides at Columbia River entrance (N. Jetty)
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Astoria, Tongue Point, Columbia River. With a mean range of about 5.8 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.7 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 9.6 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −2.0 ft on July 5.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Astoria, Tongue Point, Columbia River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1982 to 1983 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Cape Disappointment, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 12 min later.
