About the tides at Dahlgren

Dahlgren has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. Water here rises and falls only about 1.6 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.9 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.4 ft on September 30 and bottom out at −0.6 ft on January 23.
