About the tides at Dog Hammock
Dog Hammock has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 7.0 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. The next spring tides peak on October 25, with a range of 8.6 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 5.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 9.3 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on January 23.
Dog Hammock is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 33 min and lows about 22 min later than there. The nearest other station is Eagle Creek, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 12 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Sapelo River Entrance.
Predictions are based on Fort Pulaski, Savannah River.
