About the tides at Duck Key
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.3 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 2.4 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 1.1 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.5 ft on October 28, and the lowest is −0.4 ft on January 21.
Duck Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 71 min and lows about 40 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1970 to 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Toms Harbor Channel, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 4 h 53 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Long Key Viaduct.
Predictions are based on Key West.
