About the tides at Grassy Key
Grassy Key has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 0.9 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.3 ft. The next spring tides peak on Monday, with a range of 1.5 ft. Neap tides follow on October 20, when the range shrinks to 0.6 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 1.9 ft on October 28, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 21.
Grassy Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 340 min and lows about 408 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1970 to 1982 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Toms Harbor Channel, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 33 min earlier.
