About the tides at Toms Harbor Cut
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 0.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 0.8 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 1.0 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 0.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 0.9 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −0.3 ft on January 21.
Toms Harbor Cut is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 79 min and lows about 30 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Toms Harbor Channel, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 4 h 52 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Long Key Viaduct.
Predictions are based on Key West.
