About the tides at Englewood

Englewood has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay. The mean range is small, about 1.0 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.6 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 29, with a range of 2.2 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 0.8 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.0 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on January 21.

Englewood is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay: highs come about 17 min and lows about 17 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Don Pedro Island State Park, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 55 min earlier.
