About the tides at Essex

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at New London, Thames River. The average range is about 2.8 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is smaller than most Connecticut stations on this site. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 4.2 ft on July 3, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on January 23.

Essex is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting New London, Thames River: highs come about 99 min and lows about 98 min later than there. The nearest other station is Lyme, 3 mi away. For tidal currents, see I-95 Bridge.

Predictions are based on New London, Thames River.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
