About the tides at Lyme

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at New London, Thames River. On a typical day the water moves about 3.3 ft between high and low. That is smaller than most Connecticut stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.8 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 4.6 ft on July 3 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at New London, Thames River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1987 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Essex, 3 mi away. For tidal currents, see I-95 Bridge.

Predictions are based on New London, Thames River.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
