About the tides at Fat Deer Key

Fat Deer Key has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.1 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.5 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 2.3 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.2 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.6 ft on January 21.

Fat Deer Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 309 min and lows about 386 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Vaca Key-Fat Deer Key bridge, 0.9 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 h 9 m later. For tidal currents, see Moser Channel, between Molasses and Pigeon Keys.

Predictions are based on Key West.
