About the tides at Fire Island

Fire Island has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. Fire Island sees a mean range of about 24.0 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 26.9 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 35.0 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 15.5 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 31.4 ft on September 2 and bottom out at −5.2 ft on July 5.
