About the tides at Fitzgibbon Cove

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 1.6 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Ketchikan, Tongass Narrows. The tide range here is very large, about 12.7 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 21.9 ft. Neap tides follow tomorrow, when the range shrinks to 6.1 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 19.4 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −4.2 ft on July 5.

Fitzgibbon Cove is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Ketchikan, Tongass Narrows: highs come about 5 min and lows about 1 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Burrough Bay, 5 mi away, where high tide comes about 9 min later.

Predictions are based on Ketchikan, Tongass Narrows.
